From the Editor...

April! It's not here yet as I write this, but I can feel balminess in the air, and flowers are blooming, horses are shedding, and I'm feeling pleasantly nostalgic.

Why nostalgic? Because this is our biggest polo issue of the year, and it takes me back to the days when Sidelines was a tabloid devoted mostly to polo. As usual David Lominska's excellent photography graces the cover of Sidelines - and the inside pages as well. Alan Fabricant has joined the ranks as a regular contributor with his photos of polo and the jumping scene, and he seems to be one busy man, shuttling between field and arena.

Lauren Giannini visited with one of polo's favorites: Big Joe Muldoon, and did such a great interview we broke the story into two (second half next month). You non-polo folks out there, be sure to read about Big Joe, he's done a lot more than just hit the ball around a field.

Lauren also takes us for a ride with her "Flying Horses" story. Hearing Major General Burton's tales of how horses were loaded on airplanes in the old days85 well, let's just say we've come a long way.

Jan Westmark always entertains, and her visit with Tara Spencer, who has to be one of the most charming 11 year old catch riders in the country is sure to delight.

Regular contributor Amber Heintzberger writes about Jennifer Wooten and Jennie Brannigan, and Lauren visits with the O'Connor's head groom, Max Corcoran. Johnny Robb chats with Jane Savoie and new contributor Kathy Beal catches up with Guenter Seidel on 'the other coast.' We welcome Kathy, and look forward to improved California dressage coverage through her able writing.

As you may have noticed, this is our first transportation issue, and if you ever ship your horse, either yourself or commercially, I think you'll find plenty of reading.

I feel a little short of breath just recounting all the great stories in this issue. I think it's a cover-to-cover read, no matter your discipline.

Until next month,

Cornelia Bernard Henderson
