Marcella admits it, she's soooo relieved things are settling down in Wellie-world and getting back to 'normal' whatever that is in time for the show season. The real estate ladies in her acquaintance are also recovering from the vapors. You can well imagine what all this dust-up has done to the Wellie-world horse property market!
Of course, with the changes, there are changes. Phelps Media will no longer be representing the WEF, and is moving off the showgrounds to new digs. Ken Braddick, of Equestrian Sport Promotions will now be doing the PR for the WEF. We understand Ken will be introducing a number of new communications initiatives this year including an official ESP website with results, stories, and photos; the official WEF Daily Results Reporting email; WEF Weekly Newsletter; as well as the production of an annual 'WEF Yearbook' that will include a photo essay of the Festival.
But no fear for Mason fans, Phelps Media still has a slew of riders they'll be promoting!
Horses: Ashley Partow recently purchased Olinoeska from Ludo Philippaerts, the world renowned show jumper from Belgium. Olinoeska joins Partow's other horse, Cool Flood, who recently won the $25,000 Shore Classic at the NJ Horse Park and the Welcome Stake at the Kentucky Summer Horse Show.
Course designer Anthony D'Ambrosio and his wife Michael took a "day off" to see how Sydney Masters' horse, Zidane, was doing in the States. Michael found the big guy in Belgium, and he definitely approved of Zidane's new digs.
Congratulations to Diane Mangasarian (in the latter part of her life, the age when one does not ask how old someone is) on the purchase of her very first horse, big flea bitten grey named Copenhagen. Now she just has to decide on a barn name for the Percheron/TB cross that everyone at Soresi Show Stables can agree upon! Ideas are always welcome!!
Fred Becher of Old Lyme Show stable lost his wonderful mare Stifler's Mom. She won 14 of the last 16 classes she competed in (Children's' jumper division and M & S classics). She broke her leg coming off a practice jump earlier this month.
Catching UP: Diane Carney and the USHJA's High Performance Hunter committee are on a roll. This new discipline is gaining a lot of speed, and they have just released the International Hunter Derby schedule for 2008. They will have classes at the various HITS circuits . . . and beyond?
Some big news for the horsey set: Kentucky's governor-elect Steve Beshere and his wife Jane are both avid foxhunters and members of Iroquois, and Steve has represented USEF in the past. Trivia question: Do you know the name of the governor who wanted to close the Horse Park in Kentucky? Give up? John Y. Brown, of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame.
Liz Denny, well-known competitor on the West Coast Grand Prix show circuit, has established her own training and show barn, Liz Denny Show Stable, LLC, at the newly opened Spirit Equestrian in Somis, California. Liz brings an impressive 30 years of experience as a rider, instructor and top grand prix competitor. Marcella sends her a congratulations hog and air-kiss.
The mortgage world's favorite broker is gearing up for a season in Florida with new trainer Pamela Polk.
If you've been wondering what favorite Bad Boy John Haggin has been up to lately, well, now he does cigarette boats instead of horses... John says that he took the Miss GEICO race boat to four World Championship's this year and won them all!
Looks like Joey Norick will be settling into California life with the purchase of a home outside of Los Angeles.
Marcella was so sorry to hear that Jan Agardy had to give up riding after a terrible accident...
