Carrie Spence's ponies at her trailer look pretty in pink
Catching up: Sunny Hale of the American Polo Horse Association Registry.....reports there may be between four and six American Polo Horse registered horses playing in this year's Argentine Open!!!....and some of them are from local residents in Aiken!! You can follow them on www.americanpolohorse.com.
Still the party animal, Frank Stallone celebrated his 90th birthday in style. Kathleen, his wife, and Dante, Frank Stallone Jr. and Connie Francis gave a marvelous two day party for him and all his dedicated friends. Even people who could not make it sent plenty of presents, and regards and praises of him for playing polo 40 years of his life. A slide show showed Frank at his prime on the ponies, and in his glory ringing the bell for ROCKY. The Saturday evening party went on for hours, and was followed up with a Sunday lunch to finish off the delicious Italian fare, then everyone partied again into the night at Stallone's restaurant in Boca Raton, Fl.
Eye candy, for sure. MHP Nacho Figuera (Most Handsome Player) was voted third most handsome man in the world by Vanity Fair Magazine.
Cachi Garcia-Velez is going to FAU in Boca and playing as much polo as he can with the Ganzi's in FL and Andy Busch in California.
Weston Gracida who is in his last year of college has been raised to 3 goals and has just gotten his pilots license!
Bumps & Bruises Santa Barbara Polo Club's Mike Sheller was flying to goal and he and his horse caught the goal post- the post won- but not to worry "He made the goal"- but at a pretty high cost Mike had a spiral fractured left leg- 2 plates- 27 screws later- Seems he is out of polo for a long time to come.
Don't think the Dallas polo scene is anything like you may have seen on Dallas Divas and Daughter show! (We know that, of course) Dena says that it was set up for the show, and none of those women ever attend polo matches. Of course we know no one in polo actually dresses or acts like that, so no worries, Dena!
OK so check out this little tidbit: when in the history of polo has a husband and wife ever played each other for a high goal trophy like the Silver Cup??? Just askin??? It happened in Aiken on 10/18- ask Barb and Tom about how much fun that was!
Wedding bells: Sebastian Amaya from Pololine is getting married to the lovely Ana Clara Cozzi at his farm in Lobos, Argentina.
Club news: Marcelo Cabeza put on the first Arena Polo match the first weekend in October at Sunlight Ranch! What great fun!"
Kim Snider is usually announcing games, but couldn't resist the opportunity to play with Sunny Hale in a recent women's tournament at Prestonwood Polo in Dallas; she even turned her home into a sorority house for polo players, hosting Sunny and opposing player Erica Gandomcar. Kim said it was a blast.
Passing: We were saddened to learn that Gerry Hilly peacefully passed on to the other side on Tuesday, September 29. Meg Hilly said she sneaked his dog, Lucky Buttons in to have a last visit, and her sister sang a song entitled "Life" to him and played guitar. The woman minister happened to come into the room and when Rebecca's song was over everyone could see a change in his breathing. He took a very peaceful last breath and Meg waited a moment, called her brother and put him on speaker phone, and the minister said a prayer. It was perfect.
