What a busy fall we’ve had. It seems that everything is a scramble as we dash from one thing to another, never quite slowing down. As a child I recall when autumn seemed to last and last, and golden afternoons spent kicking through the leaves, or hacking down quiet lanes on a crisp afternoon defined the season.
Now? Pffft! Who has time to define anything? Fall is still a favorite season of mine, cub hunting begins, horses are looking especially splendid as their winter coats peek through the sun-lightened summer hair, and the leaves are still falling. Summer shows have wrapped up, polo is in Aiken, and the mailboxes are filled with catalogs hawking winter merchandise.
So let’s all take a collective deep breath, and I’ll tell you about what you will find in the November issue of Sidelines.
First of all, our annual gift guide is filled with treasures everyone absolutely needs.
Californian Erin Gilmore introduces us to Mike Henaghan and gold medal winning eventing YR, Maxance McManamy and she catches up with Chip McKenney, the guy behind the Gay Polo League.
Lauren Giannini chats with Robert Douglas, huntsman with South Creek Hounds in the Tampa, Florida area and interviews Anne Moss, our most amazing cover girl this issue.
Jan Westmark hobbled around the FENCE barn tour with a broken ankle and then interviewed junior rider Mike Millin. Her daughter Abby’s Wendy and Drexel continue to charm. Our junior contributor Catie Staszak qualified for the Medal Finals, and junior Sarah Ward turned in another stellar column, despite a desperately sad personal tragedy.
And Lisa Hollister’s Equine Law column on arbitration is a must-read for anyone who shows.
There’s more of course. These are just the highlights, so I’ll leave it to you to discover the rest of the stories.
Until next month,
Cornelia Henderson
