Artist Janene Di-Rico Cable's "Triple Threat" a wonderful bronze, was selected as the trophy for the United States Equestrian Federation EQUUS Foundation Humanitarian Award. The inaugural presentation took place at the USEF Pegasus Awards Dinner during the Federation's Annual Meeting in January.

Beverly Zimmer is making the official jewelry for WEG - Beverly does wonderful work, and her designs make a perfect higher-end "souvenir" for the WEG. The jewelry pieces will use the Horse Capital Productions logos for the International Equestrian Festival....

Do check it out when you are in Florida.

Tuny Page and Laurie Doyle will be hosting riders from Dressage Canada on both coasts throughout the season. Both locations will be official southern training centers for Canada's World Equestrian Games hopefuls to work with the Technical Coach Advisor Robert Dover.

(Check out the story on Robert in this issue of Sidelines.)

Two lucky silent auction winners at the recent SUCCEEDAE and Wellington Classic Dressage USET Holiday Gala Fundraiser went home with copies of Tami Hoag's newest novel Deeper Than The Dead. Tami donated two pre-press copies of Deeper Than The Dead to the silent auction held at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center in West Palm Beach.

In addition to unveiling her newest novel at the USET Holiday Gala Fundraiser, Tami also unveiled a new character that appears in Deeper Than The Dead named Jane Thomas. The character of Jane is based on a real life person of the same name - Jane Thomas, daughter of Peggy and E. Parry Thomas, owners of Olympic dressage horse Brentina, who won the privilege of being included in the novel at last year's USET Foundation benefit auction.

What's brewing for Marco Bernal? How about a budding sponsorship relationship with the National Columbian Coffee Federation? After a successful World Cup last year, Marco has his sights set on representing his native Colombia at the World Equestrian Games this fall in Kentucky. And the Cafe de Colombia sponsorship may be just the jolt he needs to make it!

We caught up with Lisa Wilcox recently, and that's not easy to do! She had the amazing Ernst Hoyos in from Europe to coach her on her HighLife Farms horses, Der Dollar, Der Euro and Highlife's Diamond Stud, among others! Lisa also helped raise money at the USET fund raiser by presenting Highlife's Silver Belle, a 6 month old Miniature Horse at the auction. Back on Track's Bo Lofvander had the winning bid on Belle and thanks to Highlife Farms' Joan and Ken Sims for donating this outstanding Miniature horse!

It's great to see Shannon Dueck back in the saddle (with a new saddle sponsor, Trilogy!) We've heard rumors that she is cooking up big plans with Robert Dover for her amazing mare, and might even be lured to ride for Canada again! We are just thrilled she's riding!

Welcome Jacob Thomas DeHerrera! Mom Christine and Dad Tom report that young Jacob, weighing a healthy 8 lbs, 4 oz and measuring 20.75 inches, is doing fine, but they aren't getting much sleep. Both Mom and Jacob are happy and healthy and want to thank everyone for their kindness and well wishes!

On the Move: Bobbin Hollow Equestrian Center in Naples welcomed Leah Conathan as the center's first Lead Dressage Trainer & Instructor. Leah is currently competing at 4th level working toward her USDF Silver Medal and is training with Kathy Von Ertfelda.

Congratulations to the USDF and to George Williams, who was elected President for a three-year term. George was Vice President of the Federation for nine years and a United States high performance rider. He takes the helm from Dr. Samuel Barish. Steve Schubert replaces Barb Tuohino Funk as Treasurer. Melissa Creswick is now interim Vice President for a one year term.

Congratulations also to Anne Gribbons. The new USEF Dressage Technical Advisor will oversee the training and preparation of US riders and horses as they prepare for World Championship, Pan American Games and Olympic competition.

Kudos and hugs to Robin Eames who was named as the 2009 Dressage Canada Owner of the Year. As Belinda Trussell's mother, Robyn has been involved with horses since getting Belinda's first horse, a Trakehener gelding named Sonet, and currently owns Belinda's top Grand Prix mount Anton. (This also qualifies Robyn as a SuperMom for sure!)

Mike Pilato and Danny Warrington report that they had a very successful UK trip. During their time in England they met with Pammy Hutton, Jane Bartle, Richard Burton and Captain Mark Phillips by invitation. Look for them at the USEA Training Symposium in Ocala, Florida in early February where they will demonstrate their Off Horse Training and Fitness Program for Equestrian Athletes. Riders and Trainers alike are invited to attend. For further details please contact either This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Horses: Just before Christmas, Mark Todd's Olympic horse NZB Galdalf was put down. Gandalf, who was Mark's 2008 Hong Kong Olympic partner, had become a danger to himself and his handlers when complications from a serious neurological disorder caused the 11-year-old grey gelding to suffer seizures and become blind in his right eye. Our condolences to Mark and the New Zealand eventing team.
