ASIDES
You’re never too young to enjoy polo! Kim and Chris Urban witnessed their first match last year in Poolesville, Md. When they heard that the America’s Cup would take place at nearby Morven Park, they decided to make a day of it with their infant daughter: "She was loving it and having a great time. We were hoping that America would make it a hat trick - we won the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 - we were hoping that USA would beat the British again today!" Alas, no hat trick for the home team: UK outscored the US, 7-3.
Photo by Lauren R. GianniniDena Miller in Dallas says that in early June, they were all still praying for monsoon season to be over so they can even have polo! One of the two scheduled games Las Colinas managed to play between raindrops included Polo on the Lawn. Since this is a big deal, even by Dallas standards, it’s good the rain held off for that Sunday. "We had a lovely Mothers Day event planned and had to move the game to Oak Point filed," says Dena. "We took the caterer but had to cancel the live music since there is no power out there. In the fourth chukker the skies opened up on us. Wind blew away the tent many of us were huddled under and I helped the caterer load the food up and we took it to our barn and had an impromptu party there! Sophie Gleeson’s (birthday happened to be the day before, so it was a surprise birthday party for her. I was drinking red wine out of the bottle and was threatening to have a wet t-shirt contest, since I was already soaked through. The hubby found me a dry t-shirt and insisted that I put it on! The last two chukkers of that game had to be played a few days later . . . shortest polo match I’ve ever attended. . . "

Within 10 days he was off painkillers and galloping around with just a cane. Says his hip feels like he’d got a good kick from a horse - nothing he wasn’t accustomed to.
